Fire Extinguisher: Maintenance
Fire extinguishers save lives. There is no doubt about it. But, in order to keep doing so, they must be properly maintained. In this post we cover the timeline of fire extinguisher maintenance.
Every six years fire extinguishers must under go a six year service. The fire extinguishers are discharged, insides are inspected for corrosion, o-rings replaced if needed, and then they are refilled with dry chemical and nitrogen. After they hold pressure they are good for use!
Every 12 Years fire extinguishers are required to be pressure tested using water or other noncompressible fluids to help prevent unwanted failure or rupture of the cylinder. This is called hydrostatic testing and includes both an internal and external examination of the cylinder.
Are your fire extinguishers up to date in maintenance? If not or if you aren’t sure give us a call today and we can make sure you are well protected!
